Install Sony Vaio Fn Buttons in Windows

Re-installed your Sony Vaio and then noticed that Fn buttons dont work anymore?

One way to fix the problem is to install all the applications that come with Sony Vaio available on the Sony website for your model of the laptop.

If you are like me and do not like to install all those applications and services that wont be ever used, there is a lighter and much simpler solution.

Please note that I do not take any responsibility in the solution or gaurantee that it will work for you. This solution worked for me on Windows Vista and 7, on my NW series Sony Vaio.

The steps mentioned below need to be performed in the exact same order for it to work (all utilities mentioned are available in the Sony Vaio website for the model of your laptop.

1. Ensure all your hardware drivers are installed. Only use drivers that are available from Sony or provided with Windows
2. Install the VAIO Event Service
3. Restart the computer
4. Install the Sony DLL Utils (also known as Setting Utility Series)
5. Restart the computer
6. Install the Sony Shared Library
7. Restart the computer

The Fn buttons should now available for use, just like when you bought the laptop. No need to install the overhead applications and services that come with Sony Vaio.
